Change

Image of a road covered with snow. Frosty trees line either side of road.

I am in a certain stage of my life as a woman in her late forties. I am a Gen-Xer; I smirk, but also reminisce when I see something deemed retro from the 80s and 90s. Today, I received my first mammogram, something that will become more routine because that is part of life as a woman who is “midlife.” Despite the discomfort, I want to know my body. I will soon face what some have dubbed The Change. The moniker for menopause seems a bit much in my mind: isn’t that life, change?   King Solomon’s words come…

Q&A Featuring Sheena Koops

Feature Photo for "Q&A Featuring Sheena Koops" Sister Triangle Article

Forward by Victoria Utman Full disclosure: When we set up this interview, I was frustrated. Tonight’s guest is our Talent Scout, my mother, Sheena Koops and it took three phone calls to hammer this out. If you know Sheena, you know that she is a game changer, move maker, and earth shaker. I often describe her to people that don’t know her as a “high power woman” and with that comes her God-given energy for justice, education, and advocacy. Yes, sometimes it’s challenging to get a hold of her, I never know what kind of adventure she’s on, but when…

Courage

The word "Courage" in white overtop of a woman standing in the sunset

By Bonnie Baxter   Courage I find courage inspirational, particularly when I see it in others. Sometimes it is found in the big things. We find it wrapped in grace as we fumble through. I think of times I’ve seen courage: my friends helping their young daughter through challenging years with cancer. my brother persevering through his heart transplant, and a family donating a heart to give him new life. three dear mamas all saying goodbye to newborn boys…and many others who have kept on living, really living, when a child they loved was gone. dearly loved older people walking forward…

A Letter Was in the Works

Letters in mail slot with stamps on them

By Jennifer Wallace   A letter was in the works.  It was there playing hide and seek in my mind for 5 years.  After seeing women speak out, I wanted to be that brave.  I wanted to own my nieces’ middle names, “Courage,” and “Worth” while still holding onto my daughter’s middle name, “Grace.”  So, I went there:  I went back 5 years and I opened the wound and I wrote the letter. Alone in the office, in front of the computer, a blank screen. I do not hear anything: not the kids downstairs watching YTV, not John breathing, asleep…

Courage Daughter: An Invitation from Andrea Muirhead

Courage Daughter: An Invitation from Andrea Muirhead

I just got back to my office after a lunch date with a friend. We had a little time to kill before she needed to be dropped off at her next appointment, so we went shopping. We were browsing the soap section of a department store when we found shower caps. I suggested we buy matching polka-dotted ones and wear them together when we were in the pool at Ladies’ Retreat. Dear friends, let me cordially invite you to join us at Sister Triangle’s Ladies’ Winter Retreat at the Temple Garden Mineral Spa in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on the weekend…

Sisterhood

Sisterhood: What a Beautiful Word - Sister Triangle Article

By Lisa Gillies  Sisterhood, what a beautiful word: connecting, bonding, sharing, encouraging, and so much more. This past February was my first time at the Sister Triangle Retreat; what an honour it was. We learned or were reminded that we might not be okay, and that is, okay. We are enough. To be a light wherever we go, and we may never know what others may be going through, but we can stand together. I was amazed when listening to others share, yes, I understood, I have been there. And the songs that were chosen, how they ministered to so…

Home from Retreat

Vivian Dunn We are home from Moose Jaw and the experience of “Encouraging One Another”. I am going to share with you on one of the subjects spoken about: reaching out to immigrants. When I lost my husband to cancer and I was sitting in my suite like a “basket case”, I prayed to God and asked him to help me find someone to help, so I could get my mind off of “Vivian”. God answered my prayer and my first immigrant friend was a young Mexican boy who found out I had been a teacher and knocked on my…

Old Pages

Sara Pippus Anticipation hung next to the weather-worn tools in the back porch and chased her all morning as she waited on the fresh heat of spring to fill the yard. By noon, she could not wait any longer. Jill ran down the back steps, gathering her gloves as she went, and out into the blue and green swirling hues of the large back garden. Fear, mixed with joy, sat at the edges of her gentle brown eyes. She could almost hear her grandmother’s voice as the soft breeze brushed past her pale cheeks. This year, though, could be nothing…
